WILL SCHOFIELD

From dancing under the lights of the stadium to Helping Businesses Get Online (literally), former West Coast Eagles half-back Will Schofield is playing by his own rules. A multi-hyphenate with a box-fresh white tee and grand plans, Schofield embodies the energy and the attitude of the new Subiaco.

A devoted men’s mental health advocate who doesn’t believe in breakfast, Schofield squeezes a lot in - with two kids under two, a startup that can’t hire quick enough, events company Heroes and Comrades and a booming media career as host of podcast BackChat and Perth Radio’s 6PR weekend warrior - this retired premiership champion is only just warming up!

Q&A

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF PERFECT HAPPINESS?

Being in a position to do what you want to do, when you want to do it, with your family.

PROUDEST MOMENT IN YOUR WORK LIFE?

The feeling of pride doesn’t really resonate with success for me, the thing that first comes to mind is as a senior player at the Eagles, helping younger players with whatever they were struggling with, on or off the field. Remembering where they were and seeing where they are now, and knowing I played a part in that.

WHAT'S YOUR LIFE MOTTO?

It’s actually borrowed from my mum and every time she said it I used to laugh but the more life experience I have, the more I realise she was right - where there’s a will, there’s a way.

WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT PLAYING AFL?

The camaraderie and the structure and routine (the good parts of it at least.)

WHAT WOULD PEOPLE THAT KNOW YOU BEST FROM YOUR WEST COAST DAYS BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT YOU?

That I’ve got a brain, I’m a pretty friendly nerd that likes business.

BEST WAY TO SPEND $50 IN SUBIACO?

The Subi Hotel, buying a round of pints for mates. Also really enjoyed my first visit to the new brewery on Hay Street - Golden West Brewing Co
