Catering made easy in Subiaco

Whether you’re preparing for a lavish Christmas lunch or hosting a small summer get-together with friends, here in Subi we are spoilt for choice with it comes to places to go to pick up some table fillers.

9D/531 Hay Street, Subiaco
Be Free Organics opened earlier this year- right in the middle of COVID-19 - but undaunted, the couple have created a Skandi-inspired space for organic food and eco-friendly products to shine. Many are locally produced too - cutting down on food miles - and recycling and reusing keep cups and glass jars are encouraged. The range of homemade ready meals - frozen and fresh - is inspiring and delicious. How about No Butter No Chicken curry - you just add your choice of protein to the homemade vegan coconutty sauce. Or how about tucking into some Goomalling beef lasagne, sourced from the 140km east of Perth Little Earth Meats farm. You can eat in too - and as you might expect, their Green Protein Bomb is just what the doctor ordered after a festive night out.

85 Rokeby Road, Subiaco
Paolo and Aimee Butto have recently opened a new store along Rokeby Road and although their motto might be ‘Nothing fancy, just love’, we think their approach to catering for friends and family is pretty fancy, actually. How about a summer desk feast, courtesy of their grazing box compiled with some of the delicious charcuterie, crackers and spreads they sell in-store? The deli counter is a source of inspiration too (especially if you love cheese). It’s the perfect one-stop shop if you’re putting together a special New Year’s post-party feast and we strongly encourage you to pick up some of Aimee’s sweet bakes for that sugar hit once you’ve left the dancefloor.

If you’re looking for a different spin on Christmas dessert this year, we suggest you head over to Boucla. Their chocolate and ricotta cake, and sweet soufra custard in filo pastry makes a stunning centre piece for any festive table. They also create their own special Mediterranean-inspired Christmas cake available small and large, available from 1 December. It’s also an excellent place to pick up a last minute gift - how about a Pottery for the Planet reusable cup, colourful tea towels printed with iconic Greek photography or artisan coffee and teas?

29 Subiaco Square, Subiaco
Head to this busy spot if you’ve got vegos to feed, there are meat-free options including a pulled shitake mushroom burger on a vegan bun with vegan aioli and vegan chipotle. There’s a Fable mushroom bowl to go and their shakes are rad too.
