It’s public holiday time! A part of us is slightly freaking out over the fact that we are in the latter end of summer. However, that sigh of devastation is aided by the fact that we’re all stoked for Australia Day weekend. One last big hooray before we tackle the big 2-0? Yes, please.
Who could resist a good long weekend? This can only mean an extra celebration and a day to recoup, just one last time before we say sayonara to summer.
Here’s some inspiration for things to do in Subi on the upcoming Australia Day long weekend:
Clock off on Friday at the Village Bar
The last couple weeks have been hard for us all and getting back into the groove of #worklife is a struggle. That’s why we all deserve a final hurrah before we really take on 2020. Start Aussie Day celebrations as soon as possible and clock off on Friday 24 January to enjoy a cheeky beer at Village Bar. ‘Crafty Fridays’ is Village Bar’s ultimate Friday destination this Aussie Day weekend. Relish their $10 beers on tap and start creating those long weekend memories.
Yep, your eyes are not deceiving you. Whisk Creamery has always been known for their inventive creations and their ability to think outside the box, and nothing screams Aussie like a good old sausage sizzle in the heat! But this is not any old sausage sizzle, it’s dessert! Take a bite into their sweet brioche ‘bun’, milk chocolate gelato ‘snag’, lychee coconut ‘onions’, raspberry ‘ketchup’ and passionfruit ‘mustard’. Whisk Creamery isn’t open on public holidays, so be sure to stock up on these one-of-a-kind treats.
Add a Subilicious Fringe Show to the List
Subi’s very own pocket of Fringe World splendour, Subilicious, will be buzzing during Australia Day long weekend. It’s the perfect time to catch a show, visit one of the two pop-up bars (The Fuzz and Pink Palace), play with some mystical unicorn friends and marvel at the roaming performers. Some of the shows to catch include, Cirque Africa at the Regal Theatre, Corey White: Just China Make it at The Vic and Alissia Marsh: King of the Lesbians at BARK Subiaco!
Who is ready to see Market Square Park and Haydn Bunton Road transform into a festival to remember? This Aussie Day weekend, The Pineapple Club is gracing our community, featuring WA's finest, including DJs and live talent. Enjoy the end of the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown in our Listening Lounge too.
Rock On at sunset@subi Murphy's Lore Concert
Would Australia Day be complete without rocking on to some Aussie classics? The sunset@subi is a free concert series that covers a mix of sounds and genres suitable for the whole family. Pull out the picnic blanket and enjoy Aussie Day in true WA fashion with an all-Aussie tribute featuring Perth's premier pub-rock band, Murphy's Lore. With the dynamic local rock group presenting a special Australia Day program of classic Aussie hits, including songs by legendary bands Cold Chisel, INXS, Powderfinger, John Farnham, ACDC, Hoodoo Gurus and so much more, this is one show that cannot be missed!
