Mother's Day Gift Guide

Article Article

Say it with flowers (but also and candles, pastries and love)!

It’s the day we all try to do well – and come up with something our mothers will really love. Subiaco has some extra special ideas for the mum in your life for Mother’s Day on 9 May, so there’s no excuse to fall back on servo flowers this year.

Sweet collab

One gift is great – but how about two for your mum? We’re loving the pre-order option of a beautiful dried flower bouquet from Forever Rose and a heart-shaped mille-feuille, beautifully iced and decorated from one of our favourite artisan bakeries, Layers Bakery. The mille-feuille may be devoured on May 9, but the dried bouquet will last much longer and remind your mum just how much you love her. It’s $79 for both, or $49 for the mille-feuille only – head to Layers Bakery’s instagram to place your order in time for the big day.

Beautify her home

Table Culture have done the hard work for you by curating a collection of gift ideas for Mother’s Day. Members of staff have picked out some of their favourite things – and we think their taste is pretty spot on. Emma suggests some beautiful homewares including natural-coloured Poet’s Dream Bowl ($54.95) and a white Smooth Infinity Vase ($89.95) which would go just perfectly with the Maple Bone Cushion ($179.95) which is also on her wish-list. Meanwhile Paddy suggests a splash of colour from the Spotted Begonia Nude Cushion ($179.95) and some truly gorgeous Carthusia Soaps ($39.95) which are almost too beautiful to use. If your mum loves to snuggle, Darby suggests some super-comfy Marimekk Unikko slippers ($69.95) and a matching Marimekko Unikko Robe ($229.95) while Tracy’s Tom Dixon Caffietere Set in black would look just perfect at breakfast time on Mother’s Day morning.

Win win

L’Occitane are giving you the chance to not only give your mother something lovely – you can also help women in impoverished Burkina Faso into the bargain. Buy a tube of the limited edition Shea Hibiscus Solidarity Hand Cream, and 100% of profits will be donated to the women who produce this luxurious product’s key ingredient – shea butter. The funds go towards helping promote women’s leadership and economic independence – and a new target of helping 60,000 women has just been set. The hand cream smells wonderful too – infused with hibiscus sabdariffa, a scent known in Burkina Faso. So by treating the hands of your mother, you’ll be handing other women some power too. Head over to their Instagram page (@loccitaneaus) for a great Mother’s Day giveaway too, worth over $700 of their products.

Feast for her eyes

Many of Subiaco’s favourite venues are holding special events to treat mums this year. Meeka Restaurant has a high tea brunch at 10am or 11am on May 9, with a Mimosa on arrival ($70 per person – book online). If a never-ending brunch is more her style, Mimosa’s has also created a bottomless brunch which more than meets the Mum test. Storehouse at Vibe Subiaco has created a delectable three-course lunch – all mums receive a glass of sparkling on arrival. It’s $75 per person and available from noon to 2.15pm – please book in advance. If you’re keen to dine at home with a little something special, Louis Beglin’s Mother’s Day special heart-shaped raspberry mousse cake ($55) serves six – but it’s her special day, so we reckon she can have the whole thing if she wants.

Flowers – and then some

Here’s something you might not know - St John of God Florist doesn’t just deliver flowers to those in its nearby hospital – it’s also the spot to pick up some unique plants, gifts and bouquets for special occasions. It’s a treasure trove of unexpectedly-inspired home décor items too – just the place to pick a unique gift up for your mum. Even if your mother doesn’t possess a green finger or thumb, the friendly staff can advise on hardy plants as a gift which will resist all attempts to prematurely end their existence. There are also luxurious gifts like Wavertree & London soaps (Aussie-made and triple-milled) and Palm Beach Collection candles and diffusers to keep her home smelling sweet all year round. For other great spots to get gorgeous flower arrangements and bouquets, head to Cottage Gardens or Rokeby Florist.
