Only here for a moment, Subi Blooms has finished blossoming for another year.
As transient as the changing seasons, Western Australia’s biggest display of floral artistry is remarkable precisely for its impermanence, transforming the streets with ecstatic beauty and leaving only memories behind.
With 19 installations sprawling the streets of Subiaco, our sixth and largest iteration of the event brought tens of thousands of visitors into the suburb – children, parents, family, friends and four-legged fur babies alike. Everyone embraced the botanical spirit, with local businesses offering up floral-themed special offers, events and workshops over the Mother’s Day period. From botanical-themed gin cocktails served in teacups, to free flower carts and floral pilates socks, the blooms went beyond the physical in a truly immersive floral fantasy.
New additions this year came in the form of the Lotterywest Community Hub, a buzzing zone of family-friendly activities on the Subiaco Museum Lawn, and large-scale inflatable artwork Stem by Stem. Created by Melbourne design studio ENESS and decorated with florals from Sir Botanical, this illuminated installation was a highlight for trail-goers, and remains on display until Sunday 19 May.
Although fleeting in nature, no petal from this floral extravaganza is ever wasted. Following the weekend, all usable flowers from the installations were repurposed into over 70 bouquets destined for a second life at King Edward Memorial Hospital. City of Subiaco Deputy Mayor Gary Kosovich joined City of Subiaco and King Edward staff members in making a special visit to the hospital, donating the unique bouquets to new and expectant mums, as well as the healthcare professionals working tirelessly on the wards. These recipients may not have been able to stroll the streets during Subi Blooms, but they had a slice of its beauty to take home and treasure.
It is important to acknowledge that Subi Blooms has grown to this sheer size and scale with thanks to our Major Event Partners Lotterywest, Home Base, Direct Image, Vibe Hotel and Mara Collective.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to our Floral Installation Sponsors, and the 19 talented florists behind our sprawling Floral Trail.
