Boomerangs always return home — and this time, it’s no different! Nana is doing a runner from the old folks’ home and she isn’t going back! Will you assist her, or resist her?
Written by Bruce Denny, Operation Boomerang is a dark family comedy that looks at some of the hard questions we are faced with in our twilight years. It’s a family yarn about coming together to support an ageing matriarch despite all their differences; a play not only about living on your own terms, but dying on your own terms.
A story about a tight-knit, loving family, the play was born from the playwright’s personal experience placing his mother and other elderly relatives into aged care, reflecting the importance for many Aboriginal people to return to Country as they near the end of their lives.
Operation Boomerang, a witty, sensitive, and occasionally laugh-out-loud play, is a powerful piece about choice and the significance of returning to Country for the final stages of one’s life.
