For all Subiaco’s impressive recent conjuring tricks to regenerate and rise, phoenix-like, there was still perhaps a missing piece to the puzzle. As new venues, unique shops and bars opened their doors in recent years, there was that sentimental wish by many locals for a return of the markets which people remembered made Subi such a hotspot in days gone by.
Now, some 15 years after Subiaco Pavilion Markets shut its doors, Subiaco will be home to at least three markets with offerings sure to encourage a further uptick in visitor numbers to 6008.
After a well-attended launch of the ONE Subiaco markets’ offering on October 7 (followed by editions in November and December), Subiaco has welcomed a weekly culinary and cultural evolution with the exciting arrival of the Subi Night Market.
Every Saturday night, from November 11 to April 6, Market Square Park will transform into a vibrant food-lovers and community hub – tempting the senses with a heady array of sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. It’s such a welcome addition to the fabric of Subi’s burgeoning destination status that we’re celebrating not just this new kid on the block but also the original and best farmers market, which you’ll find every Saturday morning in the primary school’s grounds. Summer nights just got an upgrade.
Developed from the concept of a traditional ‘market square’, Subi Night Market will provide a leafy, central space where locals and visitors alike can come together in celebration of a community that honours great food, family connection and live music. Lovers of second-hand and thrift will also be treated to Preloved Lane – a one-stop spot for vintage and secondhand fashion.
It’s a concept that aims to bring a European-inspired village atmosphere direct to Subiaco as visitors dine at Parisian bistro-style tables and chairs, or relax on the grass listening to live music. They can peruse the preloved and vintage clothing market before wandering through the streets of Subiaco to linger longer at one of the many humming after-dark venues. In short, it’s the perfect aperitif to a night out in Subiaco.
At the very heart of Subi Night Market is a love of fantastic food. A selection of Perth’s finest pop-up food stalls has been curated to tantalise the tastebuds with an exciting mix of over 40 international cuisines, gourmet delicacies, and Insta-worthy desserts. It’s a gastronomic adventure waiting to be explored and savoured.
Local distillery Spirit of Little Things will be whipping up a range of botanical tipples perfect for sipping on as the sun sets in the park. Their innovative and deliciously chilled spirits promise to be the perfect complement to your culinary exploration, and inspire you to continue your Saturday night journey onward to the many local bars in Subi.
But the Subi Night Market isn’t just about food and drinks; it’s a celebration of fashion sustainability, local artists and galleries. Preloved Lane, a treasure trove of lightly loved fashion, embraces the circular economy, giving shoppers the opportunity to find something special while reducing their environmental footprint. Local art and artists will be on show throughout the season to tempt even the finest of art connoisseurs.
There’s a soundtrack to all this too as the warm evening air will be filled with acoustic melodies from local musicians, as you eat, drink and connect in this relaxed and effortlessly sophisticated space. Even your family fur baby (on a lead of course) is encouraged to come along and enjoy the famously balmy WA summer nights, with Market Square epitomising what park dreams are made of.
Getting to the Subi Night Market couldn’t be easier, with the train station right next door. Walking, riding or catching the train is highly encouraged as we all work towards treading lighter on our precious planet.
So, mark your calendars and prepare to immerse yourself in the Subi Night Market, a place where food, drink, music, art and pre-loved fashion converge to create unforgettable Saturday night memories in the heart of Subiaco.
