Subi Sweeps the 2024 WA Good Food Guide Nominations

Subi’s no stranger to the WA Good Food Guide, with cult favourite trattoria Lulu La Delizia taking out Restaurant of the Year in 2023.

This year, three of the neighbourhood’s top bars and restaurants have received nominations across their respective categories, against fierce competition from across the Perth region and beyond.

Celebrating all that is excellent in the Western Australian dining scene, the WA Good Food Guide scours all areas of cooking, entrepreneurship, wine, beer and service to rank the state’s best of the best. The resulting guide is the definitive run-down of eating and drinking in WA, with reviews of the Top 100 restaurants and Top 15 bars housed online.

With its ever-flourishing lineup of hospitality hotspots, it’s no surprise that Subi is cementing its role as one of the state’s favourite destinations for eating and drinking, with regular spots within the guide (Lulu La Delizia‘s Joel Valvasori also took home Chef of the Year back in 2021).

In 2024, Lulu La Delizia continue their streak with a second nomination for Restaurant of the Year. Praised for their enchanting, Nonna-esque approach to authentic Italian cooking and their “classic, cozy atmosphere”, this warm and welcoming eatery has held the hearts of Subi locals and visitors alike since opening in 2016.

Another past-nominee returns in the Bar of the Year category – Cherubino City Cellar, who placed 6th on the list in 2023, have this year made it into the Top 5 finalists, hoping to score the coveted first place. Ever on the up-and-up, this chic urban wine bar and bottle shop offers Larry Cherubino’s homegrown favourites alongside France and Italy’s finest, with a succinct bar menu to match.

Already making a splash in the hospitality awards scene (thanks, Gourmet Traveller), newcomers Yiamas round out Subi’s nominations with a place in the Top 5 finalists for New Restaurant of the Year. Pairing contemporary innovation with the tried-and-true flavours of Ancient Greece, this ambient taverna has well and truly established itself as one of the most exciting openings of the year.

There’s still a few days to go until the winners are determined, with the 2024 WA Good Food Guide Awards ceremony being held at 5pm Monday 20 November in Fremantle (tickets here for all the foodies amongst our readers). But once the results are announced and the anticipated lists are live for your pre-dinner perusal, a whole world of extraordinary dining experiences await – and they start right here in Subi.

Here’s to another year of good eating and good times.
