The 2025 WA Good Food Guide Awards: Winners in Subi

It’s the night of nights in hospitality: the West Australian Good Food Guide Awards Night.

Celebrating excellence across a wide range of hospitality fields, these annual awards serve up the very best of the best in the Western Australian food and beverage scene. Culminating in a comprehensive guide featuring the year’s top 100 venues, top 25 bars and (for the first time ever!) top 25 pubs, the awards are your ultimate authority on what’s great right now in our vibrant state.

Subi has well and truly carved out a place in the guide, with several starring venues making the top 100 year after year. With newcomer Yiamas scoring the highly-coveted New Restaurant of the Year in 2024 and cult-favourite Lulu La Delizia taking Restaurant of the Year in 2023, we’re certainly no stranger to the podium either. In 2025, a record eight venues earned their place in the guide, with one even taking out a top prize.

On the podium

If you’ve heard of Subi, you’ve certainly heard of Lulu La Delizia, a trailblazing osteria with a long list of accolades not limited to multiple WAGFG awards and Gourmet Traveller WA Restaurant of the Year. This year, they’ve come out on top again with the award for Excellence in Front of House. Recognising the classic and personal approach of owner Joel Valvasori, who keeps an ever-watchful eye on the food whilst pouring wine with equal passion, this award is a celebration of his vision – and the good vibes he’s built over the years.

In the top 100

Four Subi venues are recognised in the top 100, an annual collection of the best restaurants in WA ranging from temples of fine dining to cool casual joints. Approachable and rustic French bistro La Bastide are recognised for their top-quality Western Australian ingredients, authentic seasonal dishes and refined wine list, courtesy of French wine importer and part-owner Rob Breden. Lulu La Delizia are on the list, of course, accompanied by a prestigious 3 star rating (the highest available) for their nostalgic Northern Italian cooking. Exuberant pan-Asian eatery Shui are commended for their exciting blend of aesthetic energy and powerful flavours. Recent awards-favourite Yiamas are also back, praised for their ‘simple done well’ approach to wood-fired flavours and cleverly curated Greek-centric drinks list.

In the top 25 bars

Narrowing down the state’s best watering holes to a top 25 bars is no small feat, and an impressive total of three Subi venues make this streamlined list. First up is Cherubino City Cellar, a recurring inclusion that should surprise no one, with their cavernous warehouse of premium wine bottles, plush velvet lounges and a bar menu to die for. Neighbourhood fave Juanita’s have also claimed their spot, known for their retro booths, house-made terrines and diverse drinks list. They’re both in good company with Lums Wine Bar, who’ve been recognised this year for an over-achieving list of exceptional and unusual wines. Time for a bar crawl in Subi, we think.

In the top 25 pubs

A brand new category this year, the inaugural top 25 pubs recognises only the best of our state’s pubs and breweries. Subi newcomer FOUND. Subiaco only opened at the end of November last year, and they’ve quickly built a solid reputation thanks to the decade-plus of beer scene experience shared by co-founders Will Irving and Steve Finney. They’re on the list for their great beer service (pouring over 24 taps!) and a destination pub kitchen to match.

It’s hard to argue with these ratings, which consistently place Subi amongst the top dining destinations in the state. But, don’t just take our word for it. Explore the full West Australian Good Food Guide here and pay a visit to Subi for your next dinner, drink or adventure. A whole world of hospitality excellence awaits.
