Spirit of Little Things Sweep the 2024 Perth Royal Food Awards

The exceptional craftsmanship of Subiaco distillery Spirit of Little Things was recognized at the 2024 Perth Royal Food Awards, sweeping multiple medals across a range of their artisan gins.

Hosted by the Royal Agricultural Society of WA, the Awards celebrate over 150 years of tradition and excellence in Western Australia’s agricultural industry. The Perth Royal Distilled Spirits Awards were established as a separate category in 2019 to showcase the very best of the state’s homegrown spirits, liqueurs and bitters.

Competing against the region’s finest, Little Things emerged as a standout, winning a whopping 12 medals that underscore their dedication to quality and innovation.

The Gold Medal win for their Singlefile Pinot Noir Gin is a testament to their ability to blend bold flavours with finesse. A collaboration with premier Australian winery Singlefile, this limited release gin showcases premium Pinot Noir grapes from Singlefile balanced with native Australian botanicals. A slightly sweeter gin in the vein of a “Sloe” style, but with no added sugar and only the natural sweetness of the Great Southern Pinot Noir grapes, the result is a jammy, robust gin with pepper notes and a beautiful tannin finish.

A second Gold Medal was scored for their Australian Botanical Gin, which has previously taken out gold at other prestigious national and international awards ceremonies, including the San Francisco 2023 World Spirits Competition. This signature aromatic gin has hints of native thyme, strawberry gum and lemon myrtle to enliven the palate, and has long been a favourite of judges and gin lovers alike.

The distillery also secured Silver Medals for their…

  • Vodka Yuzu: A smooth vodka with the luscious aromatics of yuzu.
  • Navy Strength: A seafaring-strength gin with a burst of native botanicals.
  • Australian Dry: A dry-style gin with warm native aniseed myrtle.
  • Blood Orange Gin: A zesty gin with blood orange, cassia bark, star anise and pepper berry.

The round of recognitions continued with Bronze Medals in several categories…

  • Signature Gin: A versatile artisan gin with a nod to the London Dry style.
  • Tempranillo Gin: A full-bodied gin with vibrant plum and berry aromas from Tempranillo grapes.
  • Singlefile Chardonnay Gin: A classic dry-style gin with Singlefile chardonnay grapes.
  • Strawberry Gin: A light, dry-style strawberry gin.
  • Limoncello: A small-batch, zesty limoncello.
  • Mr Tom Liqueur: A unique and flavourful liqueur.

All in all, this year is their most successful Perth Royal Food Awards to date, but certainly not the first time they’ve earned the industry-wide recognition – or the appreciation of gin lovers at home in Perth and beyond.

Situated on Railway Road in Subiaco, the distillery not only produces outstanding gin but also offers a warm, inviting space for friends, family, and gin lovers to enjoy. Guests can explore their masterclasses, tastings, and a delightful array of food pairings diving into an experience that encapsulates the spirit of Western Australia.
