Here for a good time and not a long time, Subi Blooms x Gather has finished flowering for its eighth year – and what a year it was!
Western Australia’s biggest floristry display swept us into a floral daydream over the Mother’s Day weekend, leaving us dazed but utterly overjoyed. Whilst the flowers and foliage may have been whisked away (to new mums and staff at local hospitals), we’ll be revisiting the happy memories via our camera roll for years to come.
Presented by See Subiaco in partnership with Gather: A Floral Community, the festival brought 18 large-scale floral installations to Subiaco, united under the theme Flora Aurora. Inspired by nature’s most essential lifeforce, the concept transformed the streets into a radiant landscape of light, introducing a new blooms-by-night experience powered by Lotterywest and Festoon. This bright new addition enabled visitors to experience the installations both by day and by night, wandering through a glowing maze of illuminated florals.
Beyond the blooms, new opportunities for connection continued to blossom throughout the three-day event. A special events program wove together a VIP launch party, floral workshops, walking tours and more, bringing together local businesses, florists, and visitors for powerful shared experiences. A highlight was the bustling Gather Village, returning to Postal Walk with fresh flower posies, exclusive merch, live music, a pop-up bar and delicious bites from Bar Amelie. For families, the Lotterywest Community Hub was a festival favourite once again, bringing facepainting, fairies and craft activities to the lush green gardens outside the Subiaco Museum.
This year, we also welcomed a new showcase public art installation created by globally renowned artist Matthew Aberline with The Beautiful and Useful Studio. Titled The Light Within, this immersive, inflatable artwork featured a glowing garden of vibrant floral lanterns, which were revealed ahead of the main festival on 17 April. Dazzling the grounds of Market Square Park for nearly four weeks, this marked the artwork’s first showing in Western Australia, having previously captured audiences in Singapore and China.
